Bedtime Battles

OK. Here it is. When Campbell was born, she was in a crib in our room. We didn't want too much to change for Luke when she came home, and we didn't feel like he was ready for his "big-boy bed" just yet. So we left his nursery just like it had always been. Then, about two months ago, we moved Jordan and Luke into the same room with bunk beds and Claire and Campbell in the same room. We also decided it was time to get rid of Luke's pacifier. Huge mistake. Doing it all at once was not a good idea. So, we gave the paci back. We told him that if he stayed in his bed, he could have it. He is able to climb in and out of his bed; obviously he sleeps on the bottom bunk. Anyway, he gets up and comes out all the time. So, we have just been letting him fall asleep in the living room because Jordan has to get to bed for school.

My point is this: now the paci trick doesn't work. He still won't stay in his bed. I have stood beside the door and watched for his feet to hit the floor so I can stop him then. I have tried the paci trick. I just don't know what to do anymore. But it is really bothering me because bedtime for the kids means date time for Stephen and me. That time we had to talk, watch TV and just be together by ourselves is gone and I really miss it. Should we put a crib back up until he is more ready? Should we just keep working with him to sleep in his big bed? I know in the whole scheme of things, this isn't that big of a problem. But for right now, to me, it feels like a huge problem. Help!!!

What would I do? I would put the crib back up. He's not ready to be in a big boy bed. That is just my opinion. The thing we did (we didn't have cribs the last round, we did pack n plays) is put up a gate at the bedroom door. Maybe Jordan could sleep in your bed and Luke could be in their room (only until sleep occurred obviously) and that way Jordan could still get some sleep? Just brainstorming girl...boy do I feel your pain, the twins STILL don't sleep through the night!!! But now Evyn is in Tyler's bed and Parker is on the floor in Landen & Evyn's room. Thinking of switching some things around around here.

Hey there girl,

I agree with jt above with putting the crib back up for a while longer.
I think whatever you need to do to have your date time together is #1 here. Keeping your relationship fresh is the most important thing for you. I know that has got to be hard with 4 cuties, but if mommy and daddy are happy, the kids can be happy. And we ALL want to be happy, right?:) Hang in there and before you know it, another obstacle will come along to replace this one.:)

Hey girl,

Did our suggestions work and is everything wonderful yet??:) Just kidding but I know you will get it worked out. I can't remember when the last time was when my hubby and I did not sleep like logs!! Don't be jealous, we are 59 and have earned good sleep. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and make some good memories along the way. I think I would love your grandpa since he is a coke addict (collector) like me. We are unique people you know.
Love you, Laurie

PS. Do you have any idea why jtcosby doesn't have a trash can under her post time but I have one? What does this mean? Humor me! I really don't know.
